What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that’s common among people with difficulty breathing through their nose or who are unhappy with the appearance of their nose.

How should I prepare for my surgery?

Dr. Lonerman lets you know what to expect during rhinoplasty and how to best prepare for the procedure. He might ask you to stop taking dietary supplements or medications, avoid food and drink the morning of your surgery, undergo lab testing, and make arrangements for a family member or friend to drive you home and stay with you after the procedure.

What should I expect during rhinoplasty?

You receive anesthesia to help you relax and fall asleep before the procedure. Dr. Lonergan makes incisions and removes or alters tissues as necessary to improve the function and appearance of your nose. 

Afterward, he closes any incisions and bandages your nose. He may pack it with gauze before taking you to a recovery area.

What happens after the procedure?

After a rhinoplasty, have someone drive you home. You can expect swelling, tenderness, and bruising while treated tissues heal. 

Ice the area to reduce swelling if needed, take medicines as directed, get plenty of rest, don’t place direct pressure on your nose, and avoid vigorous physical activity until given the OK. See Dr. Lonergan for follow-up visits to ensure proper healing.
