What is liposuction?

Often simply called lipo, liposuction is a procedure Dr. Lonergan uses to transform his patients’ bodies. During liposuction, he suctions the fat from targeted areas on your body, shaping them as he goes to ensure you get a natural, aesthetically pleasing body shape.

Can anyone get liposuction?

The ideal liposuction candidate is a healthy adult. 

Liposuction is an extremely effective body contouring procedure. It’s not, however, a weight loss treatment. Obese patients should look to other treatments and procedures (like gastric banding surgery or a gastric bypass) to help them achieve their weight loss goals. 

Dr. Lonergan uses liposuction to help patients with a stable body weight but areas of excess fat they want to eradicate. By removing the fat and reshaping the area, Dr. Lonergan transforms both the targeted body area and your overall appearance. 

What should I expect during and after liposuction?

Dr. Lonergan personalizes the liposuction procedure to you and your aesthetic goals. He lets you know what to expect beforehand. For example, if he’s only treating a specific area, he may use localized anesthetic, while he may use general anesthesia for more comprehensive liposuction procedures. Either way, he ensures you’re comfortable during your entire procedure. 

After liposuction, you will likely experience some swelling and bruising at the surgery site. Dr. Lonergan recommends wearing compression garments to help minimize the swelling. Expect to take a few days off of work and a few weeks away from exercise.
